Concierge service? Check. Spacious home? Check. Place to dock the boat? Not so fast. In the past, sailors seeking refuge at a private residence club were challenged to find a welcoming home for both their families and their favorite toy. That’s no longer the case, as there are multiple ownership opportunities for those who love the high seas as much as the high life. Here are the best residences for sittin’ by the dock of the bay.
St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands
Yacht Haven Grande is a 48-slip, mega yacht marina with berths of up to 450 feet. In-slip services such as fueling, waste oil disposal, wire and wireless communications, water and power are included, and the marina itself is riddled with amenities (think restaurants, shops, laundry and computer centers, all essential for yacht crews). Residence owners have the option of securing a private slip that will accommodate a vessel of up to 70 feet in length. Oh, and there’s a place for you to sleep, too—the 12 residences are 2,000 square foot, 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath villas starting at $2 million.
Ensanada, Mexico
Porto Hussong offers one-tenth shares of three- and four-bedroom condos at the Meridian Club, the resort’s private residence club. Prices range from $230,000 to $350,000 for 4,500 to 7,400 square foot units. Members get five weeks of use per year. The 14 penthouse residences are located on the top two levels of the property’s 11-story condominium towers and have grand terraces with ocean views. The units have open family rooms and entertainment areas, and a den that can morph into an office or guest room. Additionally, owners can swap weeks for stays at other fractional properties that belong to the Registry Collection and members also get access to a 74-foot Viking yacht and membership in the Porto Hussong Yacht Club. The marina can accommodate 284 yachts, with 76 berths tailored for mega yachts of up to 400 feet in length.
Martha’s Vineyard
The Edgartown Residence Club is everything you’d expect on this tony little island just off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachussetts. The club itself is situated in the center of Martha’s Vineyard, so that residents can explore to the fullest. At Edgartown, residents can reserve 28 days of planned vacation per year and book additional days on a space-available basis. A one-twelfth ownership of a one- or two-bedroom home starts at $90,000. There are only six residences, ranging from 650 to 900 square feet and appointed with gas fireplaces, private balconies and plasma televisions. Members also enjoy a private owner lounge and exclusive use of an automobile. Of course, each residence also has a full view of Edgartown Harbor, where opportunities abound for sailing enthusiasts. Drop anchor on a boat of up to 60 feet, head out for a sail or just watch one of the many ships go by.
