The fact that you, dear reader, have decided to take time out of your busy day to read this blog reveals two things about you: 1) you love to spend quality time with your computer and 2) you care to spend your greenbacks in a greener fashion. If my deductions are correct, then you will be quite happy to know that computer-manufacturer Dell has taken long strides forward towards ensuring their customers are making environmentally sound decisions when they purchase Dell products.
Dell implemented a revolutionary policy in 2006 that made recycling all Dell-manufactured products free, which addressed the growing concern about toxic computer parts being shipped off to dumps in developing countries and leaching poisonous chemicals into the environment. And in spring of this year, Dell unveiled the prototype for its its greenest product ever, a small-sized, bamboo coated desktop PC that is put together with recycled plastic materials. The green PC uses 70% less energy than your average desktop and its petite dimensions make it space efficient too. Dell also offers its customers the option of offsetting their carbon footprint with the “Plant a Tree for Me†plan—a program in which you can request that a tree be planted for every purchase you make at Dell.
The green maraschino cherry on this business sundae is the fact that Dell’s corporate headquarters is run on 100% renewable energy, making it a totally carbon neutral company. So if you want to stay on the cutting edge of the green revolution without sacrificing your technological integrity, Dell has made your life that much easier.
