High gas prices effect us all, and not least of all those of us behind the wheel of a luxury vehicle. If you’re looking to save some green at the pump (not to mention earn some green points for curbing your fossil fuel consumption) without sacrificing style, performance and top-of-the-line techie features, Forbes.com has done you the favor of compiling a list of ten “guilt-free” luxury cars.
Their choices, which are based on a combination of fuel economy and how well the vehicles retain their value, run from the expected (the diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec and the Lexus RX 400 hybrid SUV) to the eyebrow-raising (the Lexus IS F?) Turns out that while a V8 will cost you on fuel economy, it makes up for this short-coming by commanding a higher kickback when it comes time to trade in.
Other cars that made the list? The Mercedes-Benz GL Class, Jaguar XF, Lexus LS 460, Infiniti M35, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz M Class.
Am I ready to jump on board with the “guilt-free” label being applied here? Not necessarily - 18 MPG isn’t exactly reinventing the wheel - but the Forbes article does offer a good overview of where the luxury car industry is getting it right, and also some interesting insight into what “luxury” means to consumers versus what it means to auto-makers (Hint: Seems that the Toyota Prius fits the bill among those doling out the dough.) Definitely worth a read.
