dunbar1.jpgDoug Dunbar, a self-employed consultant and former sales and marketing executive, sent Helium Report a review of his experience with Yacht Share, along with some photos.

We first wrote about Bob Kyle’s Yacht Share program in August. For $1,200 a month, members receive a 1/10th share (28 days of sailing per year) of a 6-person, luxury SunSeeker Manhattan 50 yacht. A captain is included, along with access to two yacht clubs in Miami.

My wife and I joined the Yacht Share this past spring and have spent several long weekends cruising around the Chesapeake Bay. We love the ability to enjoy the “boating life” with having to worry about any of the other issues including maintenance, cleaning, or potential repair issues.

So far we have enjoyed ports of call like Annapolis, Baltimore, St. Michael’s and Solomon’s Island and have had worry free navigation around the Chesapeake Bay courtesy of the full time Captain guiding us to each location. Exploring the shops and restaurants in each of the locations has been one of our most favorite experiences, but there is nothing like the relaxation we enjoy when we are on the open water headed to our next city.

The actual boat including the salon and state rooms have been first class in terms of quality and comfort and the extra amenities like DirecTV and stereo sound system have been wonderful. Unless someone completely enjoys taking care of all the issues required to maintain a boat, both in terms of time and money, I truly believe this is the right concept to maximize the “boating life”!
