Curvy Road FerrariWe continue our coverage of the growing fractional car club industry with an overview of Curvy Road and its sister company Exotic Car Share. Exotic Car Share is a car club based on daily usage fees, much like a high-end rental company, while Curvy Road is a fractional car ownership club. The two different business models were born from a common parent company, Classic Car Share, which was founded in 2000 by George and Kathy Kiebala.

Curvy Road Fractional Car Ownership

Curvy Road’s headquarters are in Palatine, Illinois, north of Chicago with additional shared-locations in Beverly Hills, CA and New York, NY. The club now boasts 685 members, or “shareholders,” in the U.S. and offers the following cars: Ferrari 360 Spider, Lamborghini Murcielago, Lamborghini Gallardo, Rolls Royce Phantom, Ford GT, Bentley Continental GT and Porsche Carrera GT. Members can purchase one of two car share programs for any one of the cars offered. Below are sample program costs for two different vehicles:

Your annual fees include the following:
  • Delivery to your home or office, detailed and tank full of gas
  • Insurance coverage, primary liability and supplemental comprehensive
  • All repairs, maintenance, storage, cleaning
  • Some mileage is included within a set area
  • Pre-paid toll-pass in vehicle for bridges
  • Storage and detailing of your car while you have the club car

The benefits of partial ownership are obvious – less money spent on repairs, foreign parts, maintenance and insurance costs. The downside, when compared to a car club such as The Otto Club or Club Sportiva, is that you only drive one car for your one or two year term.

Exotic Car Share

If you would prefer to drive an array of exotic vehicles rather than owning just one, then Exotic Car Share is a good choice. Unlike Curvy Road, which is a fractional ownership model, Exotic Car Share provides their cars on a pay-per-usage basis. This is a much cheaper way to get into an exotic vehicle for the weekend without the hassle or cost of ownership. One thing to note – Exotic Car Share is only serving the Chicago, IL so far.

Your $250 one-time membership fee entitles you and one family member to five years of usage, including:

Curvy Road Bentley

  • Supplemental insurance (you use your own primary insurance, important to note)
  • Unlimited mileage within Chicago, IL tri-state region
  • Full tank of fuel, storage for your car
  • One hour orientation session, guidebook, toll pass, video history of car
  • 24-hour roadside assistance while using the club car

Car Usage Fees:
$330/day for a 3 day weekend (Thurs-Sun or Fri-Mon)
total weekend cost of $990
add $150/day for the Ferrari 348 Spider ($1,440)

$214/day for a week (6 days: Tues-Mon)
total cost of $1,280
add $100/day for the Ferrari 348 Spider ($1,880)

We compared these rates to exotic car rental company rates and found that joining Exotic Car Share is much cheaper. Renting a Lamborghini Gallardo from Exotic Car Share will cost you $330/day plus $250 membership fee. The same car rented from RAV exotic car rentals in Las Vegas will cost you $1,599/day and from Dream Luxury Rentals in Miami will cost you $1,800/day. With Exotic Care Share you also know that the drivers are pre-screened and approved and the cars are well maintained.
